We took a day trip to
Estonia and toured around
Tallinn. We did not have nearly enough time in the city, but we saw a few things I enjoyed very much. I didn't really know where Estonia was before coming here, so here is a map for reference. Estonia has been under Danish, Teutonic, Swedish, and Russian rule throughout history. It since regained its independence from Russia in 1991. It was only a 2-hour ferry from Helsinki.

This church is said to have been built in the 12th century. There is a legend that describes Olaf, who built the church, falling to his death from the church tower upon its completion. The steeple has been hit by lightning many times and the entire church has burned down and been rebuilt three times.

view from the top of the church tower: You can see the
Russian Orthodox Church left of center.
