southern girl

All I can say is that there's a sweetness here, a Southern sweetness, that makes sweet music. . . . If I had to tell somebody who had never been to the South, who had never heard of soul music, what it was, I'd just have to tell him that it's music from the heart, from the pulse, from the innermost feeling. That's my soul; that's how I sing. And that's the South. (Al Green)Katie Green's recent post about the south made me think of blogging about the south. While there is much value to learning new places, traveling and living somewhere new, I will always be from the south!
My WashU friends are constantly remarking about my southern accent (especially James!) and, as most people know already, they all call me Jordy Pie. I have to say, I hope my southern-ness never fades!! My mom is from southern Missouri & Dad is from Georgia. I don't really think I can explain my attachment to the south to anyone who has never spent a significant time there or also grown up there. My Mom sent me to
Party Manners, but my Dad took me camping, fishing, and canoeing every year. I will fight with anyone about what truly good BBQ is (because I know!) & I have eaten enough pickled okra to last a lifetime, but still want more. My sister and I spent summer evenings catching lightning bugs and grew up wearing ruffles, but we learned how to really ride a horse starting from the age of 5, not to mention how to muck stalls... it doesn't get any better!
